Maybe. But it's also their opinion and often young people have wrong opinions and end up regretting their choices (if they're honest about it).
We also know full well that they get terrible advice from people either in their inner circle who do nothing but inflate their egos and support every bad decision they make.
We also know that coaches make promises to kids to get them in their program as depth pieces when they've promised them higher profile roles on the team.
Just like Kaleb Thornton's mama was full of sh!t when she yelled at the game that Burno didn't want her little baby boy on his team when the evidence shows that she is either lying, stupid or both. Thornton played better and more for Burno that he has at Akron. Those are facts. Just because mama says it doesn't make it true. She's just supporting the choices made by her baby boy who can do no wrong.
These are the influences that often times put fuel to these decisions.
I don't like the coach (because I'm not a starter). I don't like the team (because I'm not a starter). I don't like the school (because I'm not a starter).
Then move on, not be a starter at the next school and then continue to lie about how everyone was against you and no one has ever believed in you other than mama and how you are making the best decisions for you.
It's selfish and self-serving (as if that isn't one in the same) and really means next to nothing.
If a guys like Coit, Williams and Konan Niederhauser stay (and we won't know until next year's roster comes out) and Nutter and Amos leaves...what exactly does it say about the coach? We can't make some sweeping generalization because some prominent players stay, while some leave.
There's not accountability for the ones who leave. They were a part of this mess and they want to point the finger elsewhere? Nutter and Amos were starters. They only have themselves to blame for not getting better at shooting free throws and blowing late leads and not closing games out. It's not like they didn't play. They both played a Lion's Share of the minutes available so, again. Take accountability. You were used and were given the playing time to be a difference maker and we lost 20 times this year with your "leadership".
But yeah...it's the coach and when I find that better coach who values and respects me, then it will be better and you will all see how it should be!
If Burno has a fault, I think he believes in his guys too much and they often fail him.
It's funny, the guys who are leaving (as of now), all shot 64.8% (Amos), 64.1% (Nutter) and 53.4% (Russell) from the free throw line and all three of them went to the line a lot and missed free throws in crucial points in the game. We also have a fvcking student manager who worked his way onto the team and playing time and hit two gigantic free throws late against Toledo. Who wants it more?
So yeah. I know it's all on Burno. Guys leaving is on Burno.
Central Michigan greatly overachieved this year and are losing 5 players, including two starters (Markus Harding, Derrick Butler) and a guy who played 15 mpg off the bench in 31 games (Jemal Davis).
Many others will still hit the portal in the next several weeks as well and the vast majority of the time, it has nothing to do with the coach.
