Johnson and Liegel are still on board. Johnson just did an interview a couple days ago and reiterated his commitment. Liegel's pinned twit still shows committed.

Well it's not ranked last in the MAC. So I guess it's just another typical year for us.

1st time I remember seeing a class without a kid from Michigan in a long time. Wonder if we lost an asst coach who used to have a lot of ties there. Also, only 3 Chicagoland kids is pretty surprising.

Chicaogland is surprising. Then when I look at the kids tape from GA and then IL....big difference. Chicago Catholic League still looks real good, but damn we have trouble getting kids out of there.

Ahmir Smith has offers from sunbelt schools. A lot of these southern kids did along with the FCS of the south as well.

I understand 247, and other sites, have a lot to cover with all the recruits in the south and all the big time offers - but these lower end guys still have offers.

Now, is the questions are we beating any p5 schools? Not really. Hammock doesn’t do that. But other schools, yes.

I don't think the offers are there like you think. All these kids love posting their offers on Twitter and Instagram.

We don't just lose kids to P5, we are losing them to other G5. Lost a DE from Chicago to Toledo, lost a TE commit to Georgia St, losing transfer QBs to recent FCS callups, and I'm sure there are others I missed. For two years straight we lost our #1 RB to transfers to G5 programs. The other problem is Hammock giving away too many scholarships to walk-ons. Save those for transfer kids who can contribute or walk-ons who are starters.

If you look at the 247 sites for commits for Toledo, Miami, WMU, etc. you see lots of guys with offers from other G5 and P5.

This was the preeminent program in the MAC for quite some time. We should be outrecruiting many MAC schools. I get Toledo has nicer facilities and is in a bigger city so they will always be at the top due to those built-in advantages but kids at Michigan or Ohio MAC schools are always going to be overshadowed by Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan St. At NIU, they won't be overshadowed by Northwestern or Illinois. So if you do well here you can get more media recognition and maybe even end up at the Heisman ceremony (Jordan Lynch) or have your own Heisman campaign (Garrett Wolfe and Michael Turner), win MAC Championships, beat P5 schools, etc.

But the offers are there, do a little google and you can see a lot of the kids have offers confirmed on a bunch of other sites. I think people fall to hard for 247, well 247 doesn’t care much about the less than big name recruits. A sunbelt vs mac battle for a kid doesn’t move their needle. It all the kids are in love with “the gram” in fact it’s being ignored by kids now…which should make us all feel old.

Do we lose to other schools our size? Of course. That’s an entirely different sentence than “none of our guys have any offers.”

Hammock does not bat 1.000 when competing for recruits, that’s a fact. But no one does.

Personally I don’t think this class is anything crazy, but I like some pieces.

Whether it’s 247 or rivals or whatever, I think the point is other MAC schools have recruits who do get the attention of those sites bc they have enough quality offers. It’s not that our recruits don’t have any offers, they just don’t have enough quality offers to get noticed like the better recruiting MAC schools.

A little background on that as far as Rivals is concerned. The platform does not have the ability to add any offers below D1. The team sites are responsible for adding the offers to the prospect profiles and not all G5 schools have sites at Rivals. So it’s on analysts and others to go in and update profiles as they are able. Often recruits will reach out and inform if any offers are missing. Rivals currently has the most up to date information on MAC recruits/commitments, although it’s been a wild day and everything is still being updated.

Honest question because I haven't seen it. How many guys have we gotten to flip to NIU from a verbal at another G5 under Hammock? Because it happened to us at least twice with this 2024 class and I know it's happened with other verbals in his previous classes.

Correct me if wrong, but this early signing day was only for high school recruits with scholarship offers. High school recruits with PWOs and transfers with scholarship offers sign in February at next signing day.

You are also selling a University that has fallen to the bottom of the MAC in both enrollment and academic standing. And facilities are crumbling as well.

Transfers are often announced at enrollment. There is no national signing date per se for them. Ball St did report 9 transfers, but if someone puts a pile of money in front of him, he will walk. Transfers don't sign.

RE: Signing day!
Feel like we go through this every year and people still don't know lol....

Early signing period is today through Friday and it is for HS seniors and JUCO players.

Transfers are not official until they are enrolled, so they can be announced at the start of the spring semester, start of the summer semester, and just this past year we even had one (Gilbert) that wasn't until the fall semester even though he had been committed long before that.

PWO's do not sign a National Letter of Intent, so even though you might see them post pics of vids of them "signing" at the their school or with their family or whatever, they are just like transfers and are not official until they enroll.

I think that's for HS recruits, unless someone announces next couple of days. Some of the recruits may be getting recruited by other schools and did not want to commit today. I believe Hammock moved on from them and will be looking at the portal to fill additional spots. This quote from a recent a Tweet of his, "We will be signing a full class of high school student athletes on Wednesday Dec 20. College football was built on developing young men and we will continue to do so."
