The government is not in the business of developing alternative energy sources. That is the private sectors job. Big brother can not fix all the problems. If we were to use all of our resources in the U.S. our dependence on foreign oil would drop. so would our trade deficit. Like the disaster in New Orleans and oil spill in Gulf, our government is not capable of handling these situations.

Please get a clue, the gov't has been in business of subsidizing fossil fuel energy for decades to the tune of billions of dollars. If a larger fraction of that $ were spent on renewal sources, this nation wouldn't be losing it's place of leadership in yet another field to the Germans, Spain and the Chinese. Do you think that Denmark has become energy independent because their gov't sat on their hands and said "no that's not our responsibility to keep this nation's economy thriving and foster job growth here and keep $ in the country"
Germany and Spain along with China are investing big $ into renewables and will own that technology soon if the US doesn't get off it's keister.

Does "use all of our resources" mean "drill baby drill?" Yup, 3% of the world's oil is gonna solve all our problems.
